Encompassing 11.5 square miles in central Palm Beach County, Royal Palm Beach is home to an estimated 31,000 residents. It is governed by an elected mayor and four council members. Incorporated in 1959, the Village of Royal Palm Beach was noted by the U.S. Census Bureau as the nation's fastest-growing community in the 1980s. Today, it features a great diversity of housing opportunities. There is something for everyone within the village's many neighborhoods of condominiums and single-family homes. The village runs an impressive park system, along with a cultural center and recreation center. A new "central park" is under construction along Royal Palm Beach Blvd. A 747-acre nature preserve with hiking and equestrian trails borders the northwest corner of the village. From its established central shopping district to a network of new shopping centers along State Road 7, Royal Palm Beach is also known as the business hub of the western communities.
